2004 Season Highlights

Four Gems, Amy, Elizabeth, Kate and Beth traveled to South Bend on June 26 and joined players from the South Bend Blue Sox and Motown Magic for a great afternoon of baseball. Kate and Beth did well in their Great Lakes League debut, and veterans Amy and Elizabeth were solid as usual.

The Gems combined with the South Bend on July 18 and took on the Detroit Danger for two hard-fought and fun games. The teams split the series. The Gems were represented by Amy, Christen, Kate, Beth and Lindsey Photo

The Gems combined with the South Bend on July 18 and went to Detroit to face the Danger for a doubleheader. The Gems were represented by Amy and Kate, who had quite an adventure trying to find the hotel. Fortunately, they survived and were able to make many offensize and defensive contributions for the Gems-Blue Sox.

The Great Lakes season ended on August 15 with a Detroit Danger at Cleveland Comets doubleheader in Lorain, OH. Amy, in the area to see her beloved Cleveland Indians play at Jacobs Field the night before, joined the Detroit team as their second baseman as they yook both games of the series.

Amy and Kate played with the Detroit Danger at the AAU Women's World Series November 3-7 in Fort Myers, FL. This was Amy's third year in the tournament and Kate's first. We were put to the test, as the team only had nine players and the sun was beating down, but we slathered on the sunscreen, drank plenty of fluids and got on the field. Kate smacked several hits, and Amy played solid defense at second base, right and left, including a 9-3 double play. Games were played at the spring training facilities of the the Boston Red Sox and Minnesots Twins, as well as a park where Ty Cobb once played.
